“Let Them Eat Fat” is an excerpt by Greg Crister from Harper’s magazine. This excerpt speaks about how fast-food effect teenagers weight and non-involvement in physical activities. Fast-food has also increase their companies force to target people of poor inner-city communities. Fast-food causes teens to become overweight for their age. Being overweight can have negative outcomes.
One significant idea in the passage is McDonald’s promoting “supersize your meal for cheap”. For example, if you order chicken nuggets, French fries, and regular soda, all they have to do is persuade you to buy the supersize just for a couple cents extra. You drink and French fries will be larger. This is a way teenager’s calories can get high and also gain weight. Teenagers always find these deals to be compelling because they feel they are getting their money worth. They don’t understand that this is bad for their health. Fast-food is popular for people to gain weight.
Teenagers who enjoy eating fast-food almost every day can deal with a lot of health issue that can affect them when they get older. For example, their calories will be too high. They will be overweight and too lazy. They will also not be able to enjoy physical activities. Another example, when I was 13yrs old, I use to always love going to McDonald’s. I would order the Mighty- kids meal. It always came with a cool toy and I ate it almost every day until I started to gain a couple of pounds. Kids started to tease me because of the way I looked. I stop eating Fast-food for a while and was so happy that I was back in shape.
Teenagers wouldn’t be able to play around and be active because they will feel tired real quick or short of breath. By them not taking good care of their body, their activities will decrease and they wouldn’t be able to play how the rest of the kids can play or get their exercise on. It is very important to be active and be able to have the shape to manage out how your activities can help you become healthy.
To conclude this essay, there are many ways to avoid over- eating fast-food on a daily basis. Second, try to exercise and eat fresh fruits or vegetables and Last, try to keep up with your weight. These are ways that can help teenagers to be able to enjoy their teen years and not be teased about their weight and how they eat.
